ESPRESSO BEYOND BORDERS

From Milan we return to Turin, where the espresso coffee machine ‘gets its wings’, metaphorically and literally thanks to the eagle that Pier Teresio Arduino places on the top of his machines, choosing it as the brand’s distinguishing element to project out into the world. Thanks to him, the first steps are made towards international recognition of the sector as Made in Italy excellence.

ARDUINO: spreading outside the borders

Pier Teresio Arduino from Turin, with his Victoria Arduino machine, from the beginning of the second decade of the 20th century, is credited with the first evidence of recognition of the product as Italian excellence. On 15 December 1915, La Stampa newspaper reported the following: ‘Man from Turin receives award abroad – It is with great satisfaction that we learn that our fellow citizen Pier Teresio Arduino, as the inventor of the now well-known espresso coffee machine (La Victoria Arduino) has been awarded the Medal of Honour (Highest Honour) by the Jury of the International Exhibition in San Francisco (California)’. Subsequent documentary evidence also confirms how the machine ‘helped to consolidate the good Italian name abroad’.
